Annual scholarship dinner raises € 12.000,- for charity

The lustrum edition of the annual scholarship dinner, traditionally to take place by the end of November, raised € 12.000,- for charity. The proceeds go towards scholarships for highly qualified students who want to come to UCU but lack the financial means. 

The guest list numbered 150 attendees, ranging from UCU students and alumni to parents, friends, faculty, staff and invited guests. For the occasion Dining Hall had been magically transformed into a posh restaurant. 61 different national flags suspended from the ceiling gave the area an international touch. Upon entrance cocktails were served, while a string trio provided a distinguished atmosphere.

The serving staff consisted of friendly and skilled volunteers, who more than adequately refilled wine glasses and served the different courses. With a Moroccan pastry starter, a rich game soup served in a tall wine glass, a beautifully arranged seafood curry, and a grand dessert the Dining Hall staff once again gave proof of the fact that there is some real cooking talent amongst them. Not only was each course a treat to the eye, but tastes were wonderfully balanced as well.

Then a group of UCU musicians gave a harmonious and solemn performance of two Scandinavian folk songs, followed by an energetic rendition of The Police's 'Roxanne'. The subsequent raffle gave guests the opportunity to donate to charity once more, and win nice prizes while doing so. It was a worthy conclusion to a successful and memorable evening.

On Friday 28 November 2008 the 4th annual Scholarship Dinner takes place. As this is University College’s 2nd Lustrum celebration, the dinner will feature entertainment from diverse traditions, an international 4 course menu and special guests as part of the Lustrum Committee’s community outreach.
Tickets cost €20,- for students and alumni and €50,- for parents, staff and faculty and include dinner, wine, entertainment and a donation to the Scholarship gift from the class of 2009.
You can reserve a ticket by transferring the appropriate amount to bank account 51.35.96.860 in the name of University College Utrecht by November 21st. In the event that you would like to reserve a table for a group, please add €10 per person and send the list of names to UCSA.ScholarshipTeam@uu.nl, after you have transferred the funds. Please be sure to put “Scholarship Dinner 2009” and your name as a comment on the transfer.
