FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

#What and who is UCUniverse for?

#How can I contact the administrator?
You can contact the administrator for help or any other questions and remarks by sending an email to ucuniverse@uu.nl.

UCUniverse is an online platform that is meant for all students, alumni, tutors, staff members, teachers and professional partners of University College Utrecht. With professional partners we not only refer to companies or NGOs and potential sponsors of UCU, but also potential research institutions, fellow colleges where current students go on exchange and alumni go for their masters, and, maybe in the longer term, secondary schools where UCU is recruiting. The platform is not accessible to any person or institution that does not fall into one of the above categories.
Our hope is, that with this platform, all of the abovementioned types of users are able to interact easily, and thereby help each other with their respective areas of experience. For instance, students can contact research institutions that are part of UCUniverse easily, but they can also search for and get in touch with third year students or alumni that undertook a research project at the same institution earlier to find out about their experience. Alternatively, an alumnus currently studying for his masters degree at another college might want to get back in touch with a professor to ask something about his or her field of interest, and will be able to get in touch easily.

#Why UCUniverse?
UCUniverse is one of the pillars of University College Utrecht’s alumni policy, as it tries to strengthen and enhance the quality of UCU’s alumni network. However, by including current students and partners of UCU in the network, we hope to offer a platform by means of which all users of UCUniverse, and hence the entire UCU community, is able to both gain something and provide something, dependent on the respective user’s life path.

#How do I register?
If you are a student, alumnus, tutor, teacher or staff member of University College Utrecht your registration data should be included in the system. By clicking on ‘Register Now’, choosing the appropriate user and filling in your personal data the system should recognize you and guide you through the registration process. If this, for some reason, does not work, please contact the administrator at ucuniverse@uu.nl..
If you are a professional partner and wish to become part of UCUniverse, you need login data. Please send an email to ucuniverse@uu.nl to obtain more information about UCUniverse and the possibility of becoming part of it.

#What about my privacy?
First of all, your data will never be given or sold to any third party or put to commercial use. Please have a look at the Terms of Agreement for more information on this issue. However, on UCUniverse itself there are two types of options with respect to privacy. Firstly, in your personal profile settings you can choose to hide your profile entirely from professional partners. This means that your profile will still be visible to students, alumni, tutors, teachers and staff members, but that you cannot be found by any of the professional partners of University College Utrecht.
Secondly, there are privacy settings on the level of individual pieces of data. For instance, you can choose to provide your email address, postal address or nationality to UCUniverse, but hide it. This means that it is not visible to any of the users of UCUniverse, but that the moderators can use you data to send you newsletters, the yearly alumni magazine, or to gather management information.

#Can I make anybody my friend?
Yes, you can. Contrary to what you might be used to, the friends option of UCUniverse is merely a bookmark option. By making someone your friend you can find that individidual's personal page easily, and the buttons on the friends-page show when the individual has updated his or her page.
Nowhere on the platform is it shown who has made you your friend or how many friends someone has got, as it is merely a tool to get in touch with someone easily. As such, the person you are making your friend does not need to confirm this.

#I am a professional partner. Can I place advertisements on UCUniverse?
UCUniverse is not open to advertisements on its pages. However, professional partners that we deem to have value to either University College Utrecht’s students or alumni can get a profile page on UCUniverse, and advertise there for jobs, internships or traineeships. For more information, please send and email to ucuniverse@uu.nl.

#Something is wrong or seems not to be functioning properly. What should I do?
As we have only very recently launched this platform you may very well still find bugs, errors or encounter any other type of problems on UCUniverse. Please check first whether or not it is not your Internet connection that is playing up. If not, please do not hesitate to send the moderator an email at ucuniverse@uu.nl. outlining the issue and suggesting a possible solution. Please note that we will never be able to test all the options and features ourselves, hence that we need and are very grateful for your input!

#You referred to the moderator of UCUniverse a couple of times. Who is this?
The moderator account of UCUniverse is used both by staff members of University College Utrecht and by members of the board of the University College Alumni Association. These are the same organisations that maintained the alumni database of UCU before the introduction of UCUniverse. As such, no external partly has access to your data, apart from Formedia, which is the company that is responsible for the technical maintenance and development of UCUniverse. The responsibility for the data your provided on UCUniverse is, however, solely in the hands of UCU and UCAA collectively.

#Any other issues?
If you have any questions that are not answered in the above list of questions, please do not hesitate to send an email to ucuniverse@uu.nl. We will try to get back to you as soon as possible.
